McSorley One Of 15 Finalists For Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award

It may not be the Heisman, but senior quarterback Trace McSorley is still in the running for one of college football’s most prestigious awards.

McSorley is one of the top 15 candidates for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is given to the best quarterback in the country each year.

Penn State’s third-year starter holds several all-time records at Penn State, including passing yards and touchdowns, and would be the first Nittany Lion quarterback to receive the award since its creation in 1987. He made a strong case to win the award last season as well, but Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph came out victorious.

The Ashburn, VA, native’s best performance so far this season came against Ohio State. Penn State fell to the Buckeyes 27-26, but McSorley managed to gain 461 total yards as he carried the Nittany Lions’ offense all night.

McSorley will have more opportunities to strengthen his résumé for the award against ranked opponents — Penn State’s next three games are against No. 18 Iowa, No. 5 Michigan, and No. 20 Wisconsin.

This year’s Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner will be announced December 7 at a ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland.
