Penn State Women’s Soccer Reels In Big Ten Honors

Penn State women’s soccer was well represented among this year’s Big Ten postseason honorees.

Erica Dambach was named the conference’s coach of the year, while Emily Ogle and Kaleigh Riehl were selected as the top midfielder and defender, respectively.

Ogle, Riehl, and sophomore forward Frankie Tagliaferri earned spots on the first team. Seniors Charlotte Williams and Alina Ortega Jurado were recognized on the second team.

Kerry Abello, who’s tied with Tagliaferri for the team lead with seven goals, found herself on the third team. Abello scored both goals for the Nittany Lions in their 2-0 win over Minnesota last Sunday to secure the program’s 19th Big Ten regular season title outright.

Swiss midfielder Kim Dubs was the lone Nittany Lion to make an appearance on the Big Ten All-Freshman team. She’s the only Penn State freshman to play in all 18 matches during the regular season, tallying two goals and an assist.

Junior defender Laura Suero, who has come off the bench in 15 matches so far this season, was the team’s sportsmanship award winner for the second straight year.

As the conference’s top seed, Penn State hosts Michigan Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jeffrey Field in the Big Ten quarterfinals.
