Joe Battista To Be Inducted Into Pennsylvania Sports Hall Of Fame
Former Penn State Icers head coach and associate athletic director Joe Battista will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame this weekend.
Battista will be honored for his contributions to hockey at Penn State, which include winning 512 games in 19 seasons as the head coach of the club-level Icers and helping bring Division I hockey back to Happy Valley. He was integral in convincing Terry and Kim Pegula to make a record-breaking donation to construct a hockey arena and create men’s and women’s ice hockey programs at Penn State. He oversaw Pegula Ice Arena’s construction as an associate athletic director, a role he assumed in 2010.
Today, Battista is the vice president of the National Athletic and Professional Success Association, and he recently started his new “Pragmatic Passion” company. His first book, which aims to help high school and college students make informed decisions about their career paths, was released in September.
Battista has also been inducted into the Penn Hills and East Boros Sports Halls of Fame, and he received the Lou Lamoriello Career Achievement Award in 2014 for his career as the Icers’ head coach.
The Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will officially induct Battista into its ranks on Saturday, November 3 during a ceremony in Wilkes-Barre.
