Lady Lions To Welcome New Head Coach Carolyn Kieger With Public Introduction

Fans heading into town for Blue-White Weekend can get a first look at the new era of Lady Lions hoops.

Penn State women’s basketball will introduce its new head coach Carolyn Kieger at a press conference open to the public at noon on Friday in the Bryce Jordan Center practice facility.

Doors will open to all at the Founders Entrance (in between Gate B and Gate C of the arena) at 11:30 a.m.

Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour will be on hand for the event to welcome Kieger, who was announced as Penn State’s new head coach last Wednesday after bringing Marquette to three straight NCAA Tournaments and finishing as a semifinalist for Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year this past season.

Kieger took the job ahead of other finalists Felisha Legette-Jack of Buffalo and Tricia Fabbri of Quinnipiac.

The 35-year-old spent five seasons at the head of her alma mater Marquette. Prior to joining the Golden Eagles, she was an assistant coach under Katie Meier at Miami.

“In Carolyn Kieger, [Penn State] found a brilliant mind, a fiercely competitive spirit, and a woman of impeccable integrity,” Meier said. “The State College community will fall in love with Carolyn’s passion and will admire how deeply she cares about her players.”

Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
