Saxbys ‘Day Of Giving’ To Benefit Penn State Lion’s Pantry

Saxbys will host a Day of Giving from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 23 in the Business Building, with all proceeds benefitting the Lion’s Pantry.

During the event, customers will be able to pay as much as they want for an any item on the menu. Saxbys will match the amount of money raised up to $5,000 and donate that to the Lion’s Pantry, which has provided non-perishable food items and toiletries to Penn State students in need since 2014.

Customers will be served by various celebrity baristas all morning — from the dean of the Smeal College of Business to Miss Pennsylvania 2017.

Here’s the complete list of celebrity baristas and when they’ll make their appearances:

  • Jordan Tracy, WTAJ news reporter: 9-9:30 a.m.
  • Chuck Whiteman, dean of the Smeal College of Business: 9:15-9:45 a.m.
  • Katie Schreckengast (’19), Miss Pennsylvania 2017: 10-10:30 a.m.
  • Jen Coupland, professor of marketing: 10:30-11 a.m.
  • Timmy Garde (’78), chief innovation leader, LevLane: 11-11:30 a.m.
  • Erik Foley, director of sustainability and instructor of management & organization: 11:30 a.m. to noon
  • Rainier Foley-Defiore, Saxbys Penn State student CEO: 11:30 a.m. to noon

Philadelphia-based Saxbys opened in the Business Building last summer, providing an “experiential learning program” to Smeal students, including a student CEO who’s selected each year to lead the entire operation.

Rory Pelella

Rory is a senior from Binghamton, New York majoring in Spanish and journalism. She's been bleeding blue and white ever since her older siblings decided to create a family dynasty in Happy Valley in 2006. So, as you can imagine, she loves absolutely everything Penn State (especially the Cheese Shoppe downtown). She's also a die-hard Yankees, Knicks, and Giants fan (it's brutal), and would do anything for a good old fashioned New York slice.
