Seniors Give Advice For Incoming Freshmen
The deadline for Penn State’s Class of 2023 to submit their deposits is only a few days away, and thousands of current high school seniors are about to begin the next chapter of their lives.
For seniors, it’s the end of this chapter. As graduation looms closer, Onward State’s seniors wanted to share their advice for incoming freshman looking for guidance on their college careers. We hope this can help the next generation of Penn Staters make the most of their time in Happy Valley.
Gabriela Stevenson: Put down your phone and sing as loudly as you can. Say yes to that Wednesday night out and remember that there’s never a wrong time to get in line for Yallah Taco.
Navin Zachariah: Find something you’re passionate about and try and leave your mark on Penn State as best you can. Also, work hard and play hard(er).
Elissa Hill: Don’t limit your college experience to what you envision during your first month. Oh, and getting a 4.0 won’t always be your number one priority — that’s okay.
Dana Lipshutz: Do whatever is going to make you most happy. College is for you — don’t worry about anyone else.
Ryan Haines: Don’t worry if your first roommate is not your best friend. You’ll find your place soon enough.
Derek Bannister: Don’t be afraid to be your own person. The most fun you’ll ever have in college is hanging out with people who are at least somewhat similar to you and share the same interests. No matter what you’re interested in, there’s bound to be a community of people into the same thing, no matter how niche it is. Penn State is interesting because it seems like everyone is only interested in a handful of things. If you love the idea of THON or Greek life, certainly pursue those paths. Just don’t be afraid to pursue clubs, orgs, or even just hobbies that aren’t so common if it means you’ll feel more fulfilled in the long run.
Carly Weiss: Don’t get too distracted, but make these the years you’ll look back on the most.
