Kevin Givens To Sign Pro Contract With San Francisco 49ers

Penn State football defensive tackle Kevin Givens is set to sign a pro contract with the San Francisco 49ers after not being selected during the NFL Draft, according to Neil Rudel of the Altoona Mirror.

Givens was one of many talents on the Nittany Lions’ defensive line in 2018. After a strong junior season with five sacks and 33 tackles, he decided to skip his senior year and turn his focus to making an NFL roster.

The defensive tackle had a solid performance at the 2019 NFL combine. His most impressive numbers were put up at the bench press, where he performed 32 reps, which tied him for third-best among defensive lineman.

After a fairly slow 40-yard dash attempt, Givens bounced back in his second try with a time of 4.87 seconds.

Despite being a bit of an unsung hero in Penn State’s skilled defensive line group, Givens was a presence as a run-stopper and hurrier of the quarterback. He finished with 82 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks in 23 starts as a Nittany Lion.

The Altoona native’s best game was when he put up a career-high seven tackles and two tackles for loss in Penn State’s 51-6 drubbing of Pitt this past September.
