Uplifting Athletes’ 17th annual Lift for Life event at Penn State will take place during Arts Fest weekend at 5 p.m. Friday, July 12 at Holuba Hall.

Last year, the event didn’t take place during Arts Fest for the first time since 2011. Penn State Athletics said there was no specific reason for the date change, but it was just the third Lift for Life not to take place during Arts Fest, which attracts thousands of visitors to Happy Valley.

More than 80 members of the Nittany Lions’ football team are expected to participate. Penn State’s offense will compete against the defense in a number of competitions to raise money for Penn State’s Uplifting Athletes chapter. Lift for Life is technically a free event, but there’s a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children who want to attend.

Members of the football team will also host a kids’ clinic from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on July 12. Your child can participate in the clinic for $15 and receive a Lift for Life t-shirt in the process.

Uplifting Athletes was founded by Scott Shirley, a Penn State football alumnus, after his father was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2007. The nonprofit aims to inspire those battling rare diseases with hope through the power of sports, and it now has 28 chapters at Division I football programs throughout the nation. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Sean Clifford will serve as the president of Penn State’s chapter this year.
