Demetrius Harmon To Speak At Penn State September 24

Actor, comedian, and social media influencer Demetrius Harmon will make a cameo in Happy Valley later this month, hosting a free lecture in Heritage Hall at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24. The event is sponsored by, and courtesy of, the Student Programming Association (SPA).

Harmon, just 21-years-old, burst onto the Youtube and Vine scene in high school and quickly became an Internet sensation. Now, he has a significant social media following — racking up 1.4 million Instagram followers, 1.6 million Twitter followers, and 450k Youtube subscribers.

In addition to his role as a comedian and actor, Harmon has devoted much of his young career working as a mental health activist.

He produced a short film titled “Be Happy” in 2016, in which he opened up about his personal battle with depression. Since then, Harmon has founded his own clothing brand “You Matter” as a way to spread positivity and awareness about mental health.

Student tickets are available in 226 HUB. Each student is allotted two free tickets and must have a student ID to pick them up. Tickets for the general public will go on sale beginning Monday, September 16.

Rory Pelella

Rory is a senior from Binghamton, New York majoring in Spanish and journalism. She's been bleeding blue and white ever since her older siblings decided to create a family dynasty in Happy Valley in 2006. So, as you can imagine, she loves absolutely everything Penn State (especially the Cheese Shoppe downtown). She's also a die-hard Yankees, Knicks, and Giants fan (it's brutal), and would do anything for a good old fashioned New York slice. Feel free to email her at [email protected] or follow her on twitter @rorypelella.
