Reports: Lady Lions Star Kamaria McDaniel Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State women’s basketball star Kamaria McDaniel reportedly entered the transfer portal Monday.

Her entrance into the portal was originally reported by the NCAA WBB Transfer List on Twitter and later confirmed by a source who spoke to StateCollege.com.

The Lady Lions will potentially lose arguably their best player in McDaniel, who was by far the team’s most efficient scorer last year. She averaged 19.8 points per game, good for second-best in the Big Ten. Additionally, she posted 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

The Michigan native was originally recruited by head coach Coquese Washington, who Kieger replaced in 2019.

McDaniel’s potential departure is the latest bump in the road for Penn State, which has had a turbulent offseason so far. The Lady Lions also lost four other Washington products to the transfer portal earlier this year.

Kieger and the rest of her squad will try to rebuild around promising young talent in what will be the first year with players she recruited herself. Penn State most notably landed five-star recruit Leilani Kapinus last November and has added two players during the offseason.

The Lady Lions will work to improve upon last year’s dismal 1-17 conference record with a fresh set of players in 2020.
