Four-Star Tight End Holden Staes Commits To Penn State

Another day, another tight end for Penn State football’s 2022 recruiting class.

Four-star tight end Holden Staes announced his decision to join James Franklin’s program via Twitter Thursday night. He’s now the fourth player to join the Nittany Lion’s class of 2022, and the second tight end alongside fellow four-star Jerry Cross.

The Atlanta, Georgia native is currently ranked as the 17th-best recruit from his home state, and the fourth-best tight end in the nation by 247Sports. He’s also considered the 172nd-best player in the class overall, which makes him the second-highest ranked recruit to join the Nittany Lions so far during this cycle.

Staes has received a total of 22 offers so far, including looks from Alabama, Auburn, and Ohio State. He’s gotten the attention for good reason, though, as he had an impressive season as just a sophomore at Westminster High School this past fall.

Penn State’s depth at tight end has only grown deeper over the past few weeks. With Staes’ and Cross’ commitment, the Nittany Lions will have a constant flow of big-time receiving targets coming to Happy Valley over the next several seasons.

Standing at 6’4″, 220 pounds early in his high school career, the impressive pass-catcher will have a chance to improve even more before he arrives as a member of Tyler Bowen’s position group.

Along with even more talent at receiver, Staes’ commitment also gives Penn State the second-best 2022 recruiting class in the Big Ten and the third-best in the nation.
