Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer Encourages Penn State To ‘Mask Up Or Pack Up’

Penn State alumna and Good Morning America host Lara Spencer encouraged students to “Mask Up or Pack Up” through the university’s social media pages Tuesday.

Spencer appeared on Penn State’s Instagram and Twitter accounts in a Cameo-style video similar to fellow alum and “Modern Family” star Ty Burrell, who also reinforced the slogan.

Spencer began the video by introducing herself, mentioning she had just finished filming Good Morning America for the day. She shared how her time at Penn State was some of the best years of her life and encouraged students to take steps to protect themselves from the coronavirus so they can make those memories, too.

“My four years at Penn State University were among the best in my life, and I want you to have the same experience,” Spencer said.

She ended the video by urging students to “mask up together so that one day soon, we can all take them off together.” Spencer wrapped up her message with an emphatic “We Are!”

You might recognize Spencer from her appearance as College GameDay’s guest picker when the ESPN program rolled into Happy Valley for the White Out last October. She hopped on stage alongside Lee Corso and closet Penn State fan Kirk Herbstreit to side with the Nittany Lions over Michigan.

Spencer earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Penn State in 1991 and was also a member of the Nittany Lions’ diving team. She later joined Good Morning America as a national correspondent in 1999.
