UPUA Women’s Empowerment Roundtable To Kick Off September 25

Penn State’s University Park Undergraduate Association will begin hosting a series of women’s empowerment roundtables on Friday, September 25.

The event, hosted through Zoom, will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. In the future, the roundtables will take place on the last Friday and the second Monday of each month.

In early June, UPUA passed legislation that created these roundtables in hopes of discussing issues, sharing resources, and creating university-wide events and initiatives to support women.

Students, faculty and university administrators, and female Board of Trustee members encouraged to attend. Students who plan to attend will be coming from more than 30 registered student organizations, including Schreyer For Women, League of Women Voters, and Days for Girls.

Registration is not required to attend. Those interested in suggesting a topic or those with any questions can still fill out the interest form.

UPUA plans to address sexism in the classroom, oppression of women of color, and safety on campus in its roundtables.

Although UPUA’s women’s empowerment roundtable is new, Schreyer For Women established a similar one for student-leaders in 2018. The Women’s Roundtable for Student Leaders aims to provide support for any leaders of organizations that focus on the experience of women, trans, and non-binary students.

UPUA’s next women’s empowerment roundtable will take place on Monday, October 12 from 6 to 7 p.m.
