Where To Celebrate Fall In State College

Happy fall, y’all! It’s that time of year again when folks gather to celebrate the fabulous foliage and soak in the last few days of sunshine before the gray, dreary State College winter takes over.

Are you ready for fresh apple cider or everything pumpkin spice? Of course you are. Luckily, the State College area has a couple of local options for all of your fall needs.

Here are a few of our favorite places to pick up pumpkins, take part in a socially distanced corn maze, or pick up some fresh cider.

Harner Farm

Harner Farm is located just a few miles off of campus on Whitehall Road. According to its Facebook page, apple-pickers are invited to select their own macintosh and golden delicious apples Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noonto 4 p.m. on Sundays. Harner Farm also offers a farmer’s market chock-full of fall goodies and treats.

Wasson Farm Market

Wasson Farm Market, located on Shingleton Road in State College, is another local farm where you can get your fall on. It’s hosting a Fall Fest on certain weekends this fall that includes hayrides, pumpkin picking, and a corn maze.

If you need to take a break from the fun, Fall Fest features delicious baked goods, homemade apple butter, and various soups. A perfect fall meal combination!

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Wasson Farm Market is accepting only cash payments. Be sure to hit up the ATM before you ride over!

Information on Fall Fest weekends can be found here. The farm is enforcing coronavirus mitigation efforts, including social distancing and mask-wearing.

Way Fruit Farm

Way Fruit Farm is located in Port Matilda. The fall season at Way Fruit Farm varies from classic apple-picking to an Apple Picking Festival.

Don’t worry, though. Pumpkins aren’t excluded from the fun. The last Saturday before Halloween is dedicated to a Pumpkin Festival Weekend in order to get those last-minute jack-o-lanterns carved.

Way Fruit Farm does have its own Farmers Market in addition to a café. More information can be found on its website.
