State College’s Best & Most Obscure Penn State Gear

There is no shortage of items you can buy to show your Penn State pride, but in order to be a real number one fan, you need to go all in. Sometimes, this means adding some…interesting…items to your collection.

We took a trip to three of the most popular stores in State College to find some obscure items that only the most dedicated Penn Staters would buy.

The Student Bookstore (On College Ave.)

The Student Bookstore on College Ave. definitely has one of the best selections of interesting Penn State trinkets. Here are some of the highlights:

Blue Hot Chocolate

“Just add hot water and it magically turns blue.”

Yes, that’s correct. This hot chocolate turns blue, and it’s mind-blowing to experience.

After drinking this, regular old brown hot chocolate will no longer make the cut. Being an elite fan means the Penn State culture is part of every aspect of your life, and now that can include your cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day.

Traditions have molded fans of Dear Old State, and the colors blue and white have illustrated them for generations. So in order to honor the traditions, grab a mug of blue hot chocolate and drink to State.

Pink Unicorn Stuffed Animal

This stuffed animal goes out to all the Penn State parents out there who cannot let your kids enjoy playtime without a little bit of State. We salute you and your efforts to make sure the next generation of Penn Staters are raised correctly. Any child who has this toy will most certainly become a Penn State fan.

The only better way to indoctrinate your child into the Penn State culture than with this pink unicorn is by bestowing them a name inspired by Penn State, and we’ve got you covered on that front as well.

Lion Paw Ice Tray

Much like the blue hot chocolate, if the normal version doesn’t suit you, why not select a Penn State version of it?

Lion paw ice cubes are perfect for every situation. An at-home tailgate, drink on the rocks (or paws in this case), or just a regular glass of water won’t ever be the same with the perfect amount of Penn State flare.

Family Clothesline

Family Clothesline also has its fair share of niche Penn State items.

Desktop Cornhole

Bringing your Penn State tailgate to work or school is next-level dedication. In the grand scheme of niche gifts, this miniature cornhole set needs to be towards the top.

While seeing a set of Penn State-themed cornhole boards at a tailgate at Beaver Stadium is a regular occurrence, spotting a miniature version on someone’s desk must be very rare. Kudos to the people that own this item already — you deserve more respect for your elite fandom.

Football Player Stress Ball

This item should be way more popular that it is now. Every single Penn State football fan is stressed out on game day. Squeezing this tiny little football player would alleviate all football related stress quite easily.

Also, in the offseason, he can just be a decoration item as an ode to the stress endured and overcome every week of football season.

Disposable Dog Poop Bag Dispenser

This is in a category all on its own.

To make a product this specific, the company must have known how much Penn Staters love their school. This is a dog poop bag dispenser for crying out loud! Penn Staters are a unique breed of fans and this product definitely highlights that.

HUB Bookstore

The HUB Bookstore has its own share of obscure goodies any Penn Stater would love.

‘My Dog is A Penn State Fan’ Magnet

Everyone in the world loves their dog, and if yours happens to be a Penn State fan, you might as well let the world know by putting it on your car.

Barbecue Rubs

In a recent email, President Eric Barron mentioned Penn State would shut down parking lots on gameday to further combat the spread of COVID-19, effectively killing any hope of a normal tailgate.

That said, you still have the opportunity to tailgate at home, and what better way to do that than with Penn State barbecue dry rubs?! A fresh Penn State flavored barbecue on game day is exactly what your at-home tailgate needs.
