Penn State Hoops To Play Virginia Tech In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Update Friday, October 30: Penn State men’s basketball confirmed Friday afternoon that it will play Virginia Tech in this season’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Nittany Lions will take on the Hokies on Tuesday, December 8 at the Cassell Coliseum.

Original Story: Penn State men’s basketball will reportedly play Virginia Tech in this year’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge, according to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein.

The Nittany Lions will travel to the Cassell Coliseum to take on the Hokies in the annual challenge. Currently, the time and date of the game is unknown.

This will be the 10th time Penn State faces off against Virginia Tech in the history of the two programs, with the Hokies owning a 6-3 advantage in the previous nine meetings. However, the Nittany Lions won the last meeting between the two teams in 2018, as they edged out a 63-62 win at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Virginia Tech is coming off a down year in 2019 where it owned a mediocre 16-16 record that put it towards the bottom of the ACC. Penn State enters the 2020 season in some unfamiliar territory, as former head coach Pat Chambers resigned after nine seasons with the program.

Last season, Penn State beat Wake Forest 76-54 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Starting guard Myreon Jones dropped 22 points en route to the Nittany Lions’ blowout win.

Penn State owns a 10-9 record all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, including a 6-3 record during the Pat Chambers era. Interim head coach Jim Ferry will attempt to continue Penn State’s recent success in the challenge.
