Pierre Reedy, Brandon Hackenberg Named Penn State Men’s Soccer Captains
Two familiar faces on the Penn State men’s soccer team will wear the captains armband in 2021.
The program announced Wednesday that Pierre Reedy and Brandon Hackenberg will be named captains for the unorthodox spring season.
Reedy and Hackenberg both hold a wealth of experience on the team. Both players are redshirt seniors, and have played under head coach Jeff Cook since he arrived in Happy Valley in 2018.
Reedy has been named captain for the second year running, after he partnered with Penn State legend Aaron Molloy last fall.
The Kutztown, Pennsylvania native has had an up-and-down career in Happy Valley. Reedy solidified his starting spot in the midfield his freshman season, scoring once and assisting twice in 18 matches. In 2017, he was injured in the season opener, and lost his next two seasons to injuries.
Reedy bounced back last fall, once again being an impact player with four assists in 16 matches. He will be a presumed starter in the midfield this time around.
Hackenberg has also been a staple of Penn State soccer for the past few seasons. The brother of Penn State quarterback Christian, Hackenberg has appeared 45 times for the Nittany Lions.
While he is known for leading the backline, Hackenberg has also contributed two goals in his Penn State career. In 2019, Hackenberg made the All–Big Ten First Team after leading the Nittany Lions to second place in the conference.
