Will Levis Named Penn State’s Starting Quarterback Against Iowa
Will Levis will get the start at quarterback for Penn State’s week five contest against Iowa.
After he took over for Sean Clifford in the second quarter of the Nittany Lions’ ugly loss to Nebraska this past weekend, Levis was named the starter just minutes ahead of Penn State’s game against the Hawkeyes.
Levis has earned some significant snaps over the course of his time in Happy Valley. The redshirt sophomore out of Connecticut was called on when Clifford went down against Ohio State last fall, as he helped the Nittany Lions make a comeback effort in Columbus. Levis’ didn’t do anything overly impressive, but he helped keep Penn State alive with his aggressive style of rushing and a few clutch completions.
In the following week, Levis earned the start over a still-injured Clifford against Rutgers. He completed eight passes worth 81 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown to Jahan Dotson, but most notably rushed for 108 yards on 17 attempts. That was good for 6.4 yards per carry for Levis.
In his most recent appearance last weekend, Levis threw for 219 yards and rushed for 61 more, but struggled to punch it in the end zone after driving the Nittany Lions into the red zone on multiple occasions.
Levis will now get a chance to show what he can do against the third-best overall defense in the Big Ten Saturday.
