Penn State Arboretum Named One Of ‘Great Places In PA’

The Arboretum at Penn State has been recognized as a top location in Pennsylvania, according to a release from the state’s chapter of the American Planning Association.

“Great Places” are determined by the group for its “Great Public Places” category. According to the APA, great places serve as a model for other communities and have a sustainable vision for the future.

The Arboretum was nominated for recognition by Peggy Ekdahl, a member of the College Township Planning Commission.

“With its plantings, ponds, fountains, sculptures, and specific exhibit areas, there truly is something for everyone of every age,” Ekdahl said. “The reasons for visiting the facility are many, such as rest, relaxation, contemplation, exercise, and education. The Arboretum at Penn State offers all of that for visitors of all ages and abilities. And it has unique offerings for each season — at no cost to visitors.”

In addition to its sprawling gardens and lush trails, the Arboretum is currently undergoing renovations for a new garden exclusively for birds and pollinators.
