Penn State Football’s Joey Porter Jr. Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

Penn State football cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Nittany Lions have now earned back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards. Keyvone Lee was given the same honors after his explosive 134-yard performance against Michigan.

Porter recorded a career-high seven tackles against Rutgers and is the first defensive Penn State player to earn this award since Jayson Oweh did in 2019.

The redshirt freshman now has 30 total tackles on the year, which is the most among the Nittany Lions’ defensive backs. Porter also has a pass breakup, two tackles-for-loss, and a sack on the year.

Porter and the rest of Penn State’s defense will try to defend the coveted Land-Grant Trophy next Saturday when Michigan State comes to Beaver Stadium. That game will kick off at 3:30 and be broadcast on ESPN.
