Lamar Stevens Scores First NBA Points In Regular-Season Debut

While Philadelphia 76ers fans may not have liked the outcome of Sunday’s tilt with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Penn State men’s basketball fans surely walked away with a smile.

Former Nittany Lions forward Lamar Stevens logged his first regular-season points in an NBA uniform in the Cavs’ 118-94 rout over the Sixers. Stevens sunk two free throws after getting fouled at the rim.

Stevens finished with two points and two rebounds in five minutes of play. He came in with the majority of Cleveland’s reserves late in the fourth quarter.

The Nittany Lion logged some minutes in preseason play, but this was his official regular-season debut. An impressive camp and one show-stopping alley-oop likely helped him make Cleveland’s final roster.

Stevens didn’t hear his name called at the NBA Draft, but he signed a two-way contract shortly after. The deal lets him split time in the G League and NBA.

The Philadelphia native isn’t the first former Penn Stater to score his first NBA points this year. Josh Reaves, who left Happy Valley after the 2018-19 season, got on the board in the “NBA Bubble” this summer with the Dallas Mavericks.

Stevens left Penn State just a few points shy of the program’s all-time scoring record. He and the 2019-20 Nittany Lions were poised for an NCAA Tournament berth before the coronavirus pandemic effectively ended the season.
