Penn State Hoops-Ohio State Postponed Following Positive COVID-19 Tests
Penn State men’s basketball’s upcoming road matchup with Ohio State has been postponed due to an unspecified number of positive coronavirus tests with the Nittany Lions’ program, the team announced Tuesday.
While Penn State remains in a holding pattern, Ohio State said it will resume practicing and prepare for its upcoming game with Rutgers on January 9.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” Athletics said in a statement. “Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff, and in consultation with University, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation.”
Penn State added it’s conducting additional contact tracing measures, including quarantining and testing individuals who might’ve been exposed.
This is now the Nittany Lions’ second straight game postponed due to coronavirus-related issues. The team’s tilt against No. 6 Wisconsin, originally slated for Sunday, was indefinitely postponed as well.
Penn State’s season-opener against Drexel was also postponed due to coronavirus-related issues.
The Nittany Lions (3-4, 0-3 Big Ten) will now set their sights on a home matchup with Michigan on Saturday, January 9, assuming the program receives clearance.
