Penn State Men’s Hockey To Host Virtual Teddy Bear Toss Benefitting THON

Penn State men’s hockey’s annual Teddy Bear Toss is going virtual this season due to the coronavirus pandemic, the team announced Thursday morning.

Instead of asking fans to chuck their teddy bears directly onto Pegula’s ice, the team is encouraging them to directly donate to THON what they’d traditionally spend on the event in a normal year.

Traditionally, thrown teddy bears would be collected and donated to childhood cancer patients and underprivileged children.

“Since we are unable to have our annual in-person Teddy Bear Toss, we’re asking you to donate to THON what you would have typically spent on a Teddy Bear,” the team said on its Donor Drive, which is how students and organizations raise money for THON.

While the teddy bear toss won’t look like it has in the past, the team hopes to keep the spirit of the event alive. Maybe next season there will be even more teddy bears on the ice than ever before.
