Penn State Hoops To Play In 2021 Emerald Coast Classic

Update, Tuesday, February 16: Penn State men’s basketball confirmed Tuesday that it will participate in next season’s Emerald Coast Classic.

The Nittany Lions will join LSU, Oregon State, and Wake Forest at the tournament. Penn State last played Wake Forest in 2019, but hasn’t played LSU since 1954 and Oregon State since 1966.

Original Story: Penn State men’s basketball is reportedly headed to Florida for Thanksgiving.

The Nittany Lions will participate in the Emerald Coast Classic next season, according to a report Tuesday by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

The Emerald Coast Classic began in 2014 as an eight-game tournament and is played at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, Florida. This year’s tournament is slated to be played from November 26 to 27 and will welcome just four teams, including LSU, Oregon State, and Wake Forest, along with the Nittany Lions.

This season’s tournament was cancelled due to travel and COVID-19 concerns.

Of the teams in the field, Penn State played the Demon Deacons most recently. The Nittany Lions took down Wake Forest in the 2019 ACC/Big Ten Challenge 76-54, as Myreon Jones led the way with 22 points while Lamar Stevens added 14.

Currently, Jim Ferry’s squad sits at 7-10 overall and holds a 4-9 record in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions next game will tip off at 8 p.m. Thursday night at the BJC against No. 4 Ohio State.

Penn State Athletics has yet to confirm that the Nittany Lions will participate in next season’s Emerald Coast Classic.
