Penn State Men’s Hockey Cancels Minnesota Series Amid Positive COVID-19 Tests
Penn State men’s hockey won’t restart play next weekend against Minnesota.
Guy Gadowsky’s squad has been forced to cancel the series with the Golden Gophers scheduled for February 27 and 28 due to positive COVID-19 results among Tier 1 Personnel, the team announced Thursday.
The Nittany Lions have yet to play a game in the month of February. It all started when their series against Michigan was postponed due to a program-wide pause for the Wolverines. Next, the series against Ohio State was postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases on Penn State’s side.
This weekend, the Nittany Lions canceled their series with Arizona State for the same reasons and officially paused team activities. Penn State Athletics added that series with the Sun Devils will not be rescheduled. As for next weekend’s series with Minnesota, those games “will likely not be rescheduled.”
Before this extended break, Penn State had improved its overall record to 9-9 and held a 7-9 mark in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions had won four of their last six contests, including victories over Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
Should Penn State get cleared after next weekend’s cancellation, it’s next scheduled to travel to South Bend for a two-game series against Notre Dame on March 5 and 6. The Big Ten Tournament is scheduled to begin on March 18.
