Overheard In Downtown State College Over THON 2021

An unprecedented THON weekend has come to an end, folks.

Instead of filling up the floor of the Bryce Jordan Center, dancers and spectators participated in THON from their own homes across State College, and even the country, this weekend. Downtown State College was buzzing with students moving from place to place to THON with their friends.

Here are some of the best things we heard this weekend.

Girl who doesn’t like her chemistry class: “I would rather stand for 46 hours than take my chemistry exam this week.”

Guy with frustrated roommates: “I asked my roommates if you guys can come over for the pep rally, and they said they’ll make Jell-O shots. I had to tell them no.”

Someone who should probably call 1-800-GAMBLER: “Can we live-bet the THON total?”

Guy who should probably head toward a dining hall: “I don’t think I’ve eaten since Friday night.”

Somebody who needs to work on his balance: “I fell and almost broke my wrist while trying to do the line dance.”

Girl who owes her life to Penn State Food Services: “I would have died without chicken baskets this weekend.”

Probably a big Billy Joel fan: “I wasn’t truly awake until I heard Piano Man at 6:45 this morning.”

Guy who wasn’t hallucinating: “They replayed the same interviews throughout the night. I thought I was hallucinating.”

Girl who just understands how awesome THON is: “The THON total blew me away. $10.6 million in a year like this is just unbelievable.”
