Podward State: Season 4, Episode 7 Ft. ‘SNL’ Director Don Roy King

Live from Happy Valley, it’s Podward State!

On a very special episode of Podward State, hosts Samuel Brungo and Matt Paolizzi are joined once again by guest host Grace Cunningham to interview 10-time Emmy winner, “Saturday Night Live” director, and Penn State alumnus Don Roy King.

King begins the show by talking about his childhood and what led him to Penn State, including a story about playing for college football’s winningest coach, Joe Paterno. Later, he touches on how he used his Penn State degree to get jobs in the television industry, ultimately leading him to “Saturday Night Live.”

He also shares his experiences from his time at “Saturday Night Live,” including stories about producer Lorne Michaels, stars like Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Fallon, and Donald Trump, and many more colleagues and hosts. He gives us an in-depth and behind-the-scenes look at some of the show’s episodes, including some that helped him win 10 (!) Emmy awards and 19 nominations.

Finally, King brings the conversation back to Penn State, talking about his time here in State College, some of his favorite spots, and the times he has returned to campus.

Podward State is an Onward State-produced podcast that will release weekly episodes this spring on Spotify and YouTube. Each will feature discussions about all things Penn State, including sports, news, student life, and entertainment, and more.
