Bryce Jordan Center To Serve As COVID-19 Vaccination Site
The Bryce Jordan Center will begin serving as a COVID-19 vaccination site next week.
The site will be operated by Centre Volunteers in Medicine on the BJC’s concourse. The group plans to administer more than 1,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to applicable patients next Monday and Tuesday.
CVIM Development Director Monica Wright said vaccine clinics at venues like the BJC help bring Centre County closer to its goal of returning to “normalcy.”
Currently, all vaccine appointments for the site are filled. But in the meantime, you can add yourself to CVIM’s online waitlist. However, only those who meet the criteria of Pennsylvania’s vaccine rollout plan will receive appointments at this time.
Although Penn State isn’t assisting vaccine distribution directly, a university spokesperson said it’ll be on standby to help with logistics. Penn State President Eric Barron echoed that sentiment in a press release last month, noting, the university purchased a freezer for proper vaccine storage and has plans in place to administer vaccines.
“We’ve leveraged our considerable expertise in areas such as logistics, information technology, communications, and health care — with various Penn State units and academic colleges stepping up — to formulate a robust plan to be prepared if the state looks to the University for further support,” Barron said. “This may provide a valuable option in meeting vaccinating our campus communities, as well as the surrounding communities if asked.”
So far, Pennsylvania’s Department of Health hasn’t taken Penn State up on its proposal.
