Penn State Campus Rec To Expand Hours & Fitness Classes Starting March 15

Penn State Campus Recreation will expand its hours and programming starting Monday, March 15, the university announced Thursday.

Expanded hours will result in more than 4,600 individual opportunities for students each week, including reservable workout sessions and classes. Mask-wearing policies and social distancing guidelines will still be enforced.

Starting March 15, the IM Building and Hepper Fitness Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Their hours will stretch from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.

Through expanded hours, Penn State will offer about 2,500 more reservable time slots for student workouts.

New IM Building offerings will include an “informal recreation area,” a reopened bouldering wall, and track and cardio areas.

Campus Rec also plans to convert 15 current virtual classes to in-person classes beginning with 302 new slots each week starting March 15.

McCoy Natatorium will also resume informal swim sessions on March 15. Starting March 17, Outdoor Adventures will offer whitewater kayak pool sessions at McCoy every Wednesday night.

Missing intramural sports? You and your team can participate in in-person cornhole, human fooseball soccer, and bocce ball leagues starting on March 22. Campus Rec will also offer a number of “special events,” including a three-point basketball shootout on March 17.

Students can reserve workout slots, find information on classes, and more through Campus Rec’s newly updated mobile app.
