Three Nittany Lions Earn All-Big Ten Volleyball Honors

Following another successful regular season, Penn State women’s volleyball represented well in this year’s All-Big Ten honors.

Middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord headlined Penn State’s honorees by landing on the first-team All-Big Ten roster. The star junior racked up 125 kills on a team-best .404 hitting clip over 14 regular-season matches. Hord also led the team with 71 total blocks and averaged 1.34 stuffs per set.

Meanwhile, right side hitter Jonni Parker and setter Gabby Blossom earned second-team All-Big Ten honors. Parker paced the team with 165 kills and contributed 112 digs, 16 assists, and 14 aces. Blossom, on the other hand, predictably led the team with 459 assists and added 129 digs, good for second on the roster.

Junior libero Jenna Hampton received Penn State’s sportsmanship award. One honor is presented to each Big Ten team.

Surprisingly, outside hitter Annie Cate Fitzpatrick did not receive a bid to this year’s All-Freshman Team. The star first-year player finished second on the team with 138 regular-season kills and contributed meaningfully by joining the Nittany Lions’ starting lineup upon her arrival this year.

Penn State will spend the next week preparing for its 40th straight NCAA Tournament run. The Nittany Lions’ quest for an eighth national title will begin on Thursday, April 15, when they face the winner of Rice and North Carolina A&M following a first-round bye.
