Penn State Relay For Life To Host Virtual Relay April 24

Penn State Relay for Life will host its annual relay event virtually from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event will be held virtually for the second year in a row. It will be livestreamed on YouTube beginning at noon, and updates will be posted on the Penn State Relay for Life social media pages throughout the day.

The event will also feature themed hours to highlight cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers, and more. The themed hours are as follows:

  • Noon – Opening Ceremony and Livestream begins
  • 1 p.m. – Survivor Hour
  • 2 p.m. – Caregiver Hour will honor the people who play a huge role in taking care of cancer patients.
  • 3 p.m. – Activity Hour (Yoga on Zoom, other activities for teams and participants to do at home)
  • 4 p.m. – Teams Hour (Honoring the teams that have been raising money and who are participating today)
  • 5 p.m. – Performance Hour (Penn State students in dance and music groups have submitted performance videos to be played during Relay)
  • 6 p.m. – Alumni Hour (Videos and stories from Penn State Alumni who were involved in Relay)
  • 7 p.m. – Sponsor Hour (Thanking businesses that are Relay sponsors.)
  • 8 p.m. – Luminaria Hour & Ceremony (Luminaria Bags are personalized bags dedicated to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who has overcome cancer. During the ceremony, candles are lit in the bag)
  • 9 p.m. – Fight Back & Closing Ceremony (Fight Back Ceremony highlighting how you can fight back against cancer through awareness, funding research, and encouraging loved ones to get appropriate screenings)
  • 10 p.m. – Total Reveal which will be on Facebook and Instagram

Relay For Life is a national organization on the fight against cancer. All proceeds from the Penn State relay and other events will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Last year, Penn State Relay for Life raised more than $41,000 during its first virtual relay event.
