Siena Guard Jalen Pickett Transfers To Penn State Hoops

Don’t let Micah Shrewsberry get hot, folks.

Former Siena point guard Jalen Pickett announced Sunday afternoon he’s transferring to Penn State men’s basketball.

“I really just trust coach [Micah] Shrewsberry,” Pickett told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. “I love the vision, the direction he’s taking, how he wants to play. Him and coach [Adam] Fisher were really on me this whole recruiting process.”

The 6’4″ point guard was one of the top players in the transfer portal this offseason. Pickett took home the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of The Year award after a 2020 season in which he averaged 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.0 assists. He shot nearly 46% from the field and 37.4% from deep that season.

The former three-star recruit saw his numbers dip during the 2020-21 season after dealing with a lingering hamstring issue. Despite this setback, he still helped lead Siena to a first-place regular-season finish in the MAAC.

CBS Sports recently ranked Pickett as the 15th-best available player in the transfer portal.

Pickett’s commitment comes just after Izaiah Brockington announced he’s re-entering the transfer portal¬†and will finish his basketball career elsewhere. However, Nittany Lion stars like Seth Lundy and John Harrar decided to stick with Shrewsberry after the program moved on from Pat Chambers and Jim Ferry.
