Former Penn State Hoops Assistant Coach Talor Battle Hired At Northwestern

Penn State men’s basketball is officially on the market for a new assistant coach.

Talor Battle has left the program to take the same position at Northwestern, the team announced Monday. Battle served as an assistant coach last season after he was hired by Pat Chambers, and coached under Jim Ferry.

“My wife Gretchen, our daughters, and I are excited for the opportunity to join the Northwestern basketball program,” Battle said. “With this role brings a new atmosphere, culture and family that I’m already proud to be a part of.”

The new opportunity for Battle allows him to coach his younger brother, Boo Buie, who is a junior guard for the Wildcats. He averaged 10.5 points and four assists in 23 games last season as a sophomore, and started 11 games during his first year in Evanston.

While Battle was a coach in Happy Valley for just one season, his impact has been felt since his playing days at Penn State. He is still the Nittany Lions’ all-time leading scorer, with 2,213 career points, and he led the team to an NIT Championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011.

Penn State will have to face Battle and Northwestern at least once next season.
