Lion Shrine, Pennsylvania State University Sign To Undergo Renovations Starting June 1

Two popular on-campus Penn State landmarks will close next month to receive renovations and landscaping improvements.

The Nittany Lion Shrine and Pennsylvania State University sign behind Beaver Stadium will close for about four weeks starting June 1. A new walkway will be installed outside the shrine, while renovations at the Pennsylvania State University sign will provide accessible walkway upgrades and new landscaping.

The Nittany Lion Shrine will be fenced off to the public throughout the renovation period, which is set to end around July 1. Work at the famed landmark largely includes replacing sidewalks and platforms with new concrete.

Renovations to the Pennsylvania State University sign at the intersection of East Park Avenue and Porter Road will include a new sidewalk with “greater accessibility” for visitors. Penn State will also remove a few dead and diseased trees nearby to keep landscaping looking sharp.

The sign will remain visible to visitors, but they’re asked to stay away while the project is in motion.

The Lion Shrine closed for renovations last summer. Work on the landmark included much-needed touch-ups to its right ear and claws, as well as an all-around “deep cleaning.”
