Micah Shrewsberry To Throw Out First Pitch For State College Spikes’ Opener

Penn State men’s basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry will throw out the first pitch on Monday, May 24, as the State College Spikes open their season at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

First pitch on May 24 is set for 6:35 p.m. Tickets for the game against the Williamsport Crosscutters are available online.

Shrewsberry jokingly replied to the announcement on Twitter and said he has a week to “get his throwing arm in shape,” all while poking fun at 50 Cent’s hilariously horrific first pitch back in 2014.

The Spikes join five clubs in the inaugural season of the new MLB Draft League, which was founded after more than 40 clubs were at risk of losing affiliation with Major League Baseball. The MLB Draft League will play a 68-game season.

Shrewsberry, meanwhile, was hired by Penn State back in March after the departure of former interim head basketball coach Jim Ferry. Shrewsberry previously coached at Purdue and with the NBA’s Boston Celtics.

Shrewsberry is far from the first Penn State coach to throw out the first pitch. On a few occasions, James Franklin did the same at Yankee Stadium.
