Students Raise More Than $29,000 Through ‘Swipe Out Hunger’ Campaign

Generous Penn Staters helped raise more than $29,000 this spring to benefit the university’s Student Emergency Fund, which provides aid to students in need.

Throughout Penn State’s “Swipe Out Hunger” week, students were encouraged to donate small portions of their on-campus meal plans to benefit the fund. It’s probably a more productive way to use up those remaining dining dollars than stockpiling ice cream or splurging on coffee.

Students from University Park and Commonwealth Campuses collectively wound up raising $29,502.67 through the campaign.

“Swipe Out Hunger” is a national nonprofit committed to ending hunger among college students. The program has been implemented at more than 130 colleges and universities across the country.
