Former Penn State Wide Receiver DeAndre Thompkins Signs With Packers

Former Penn State football wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins has signed with the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Eagles originally signed Thompkins as an undrafted free agent in 2019, but he was released following the end of training camp.

He was then drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 XFL Draft by the DC Defenders. He played in four games, totaling seven catches for 85 yards and one touchdown. Following his time in Washington, Thompkins signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the beginning of last season before being released just one week later.

Nevertheless, the North Carolina native was one of Penn State’s most dynamic players over the course of his four seasons with the Nittany Lions. He finished his career averaging 10.2 yards per punt return with two touchdowns and 83 receptions for 1,245 yards, six touchdowns as a receiver.

Thompkins also earned All-Big Ten honors in 2017 as a punt returner when he averaged 13.3 yards per punt return with one returned for a touchdown.
