Beaver Stadium Concept Study To Explore Potential Upgrades, Renovations

Penn State Athletics announced on Thursday that it would be partnering with Populous, a global design firm, to investigate exactly what will come next for Beaver Stadium.

The study jointly conducted by Penn State Athletics and Populous is expected to run through the end of summer 2021. Its main goals are to identify and analyze upcoming large-scale maintenance projects within the stadium.

Most notably, the study will also explore different upgrades to the stadium which would enhance fan experiences. This includes increasing chairback seating (goodbye #107kStrong?), adding new concession options, more premium seating options, and upgraded restrooms.

This study is a continuation of the Facilities Master Plan, which was also planned and proposed with Populous. Announced in 2017, the plan aims to upgrade or construct more than 20 facilities in as many years.

When completed, this would mark Beaver Stadium’s eighth expansion since its construction in 1960, with the most recent expansion occurring in 2001.

Populous is notable for designing Yankee Stadium and the facilities that housed the London Olympics. There are several Penn State alumni within the company, two of which will be working closely with Penn State Athletics on this study.
