State College’s Home D Pizzeria To Close After 67 Years In Business

Update, June 20: Despite intending to close on June 27, Home D Pizzeria has unexpectedly shut its doors effective immediately following nearly seven decades of business.

According to a post on its Facebook page, Home D faced unexpected difficulties to its operations since announcing the planned closures. As a result, the pizzeria won’t get sent out “with a bang” or host its final celebration event on June 26.

“No one is as upset as we are about not being able to finish out our last week,” Home D wrote on Facebook. “We apologize for the sudden closure and wish the best of luck for our staff in the future. We’ll miss our regulars, which have become family, and hope to see them in Bellefonte in the near future.”

Home D said all gift cards and memberships will remain valid at its Bellefonte location, which will stay open moving forward.

Original Story: Following nearly seven decades of business, State College’s Home D Pizzeria will close its doors at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, according to an announcement posted on Facebook Friday morning.

The restaurant’s closure comes after it finalized a deal to lease off its property at 1820 S. Atherton Street. Negotiations with another unnamed business wound up requiring leasing the entire property rather than the back half of the building it’d already been renting out.

“We’d like to thank all of our current staff members who have been like family to us and our customers over the years, we couldn’t have asked for greater people to work with,” Home D wrote on Facebook. “After the last year and a half restaurants and their staff has just had, this makes the news even harder to announce.”

Home D said its Bellefonte location, as well as its partner in State College, Robin Hood Brewing Company, will continue operating moving forward.

Before Home D’s 67-year run comes to an end, though, the restaurant is encouraging customers to swing by for one last hurrah and close it out “with a bang” (Editor’s note: I’ve got a gift card to burn!). Home D will still host an outdoor “summer bash” on Saturday, June 26, complete with live music and entertainment.

“We’re gonna miss having our last football game, and seeing the State College band late night after a game for our FAMOUS pizza specials, and we’re gonna miss seeing all of you!” Home D wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for helping us become part of such a strong community and helping us create some memories that will last forever.”
