Penn State Alum Randy Green Shines In ‘America’s Got Talent’ Audition
“America’s Got Talent” has had a lot of Penn State alumni walk onto its stage recently, and another one made his mark on the show this week.
Randy Green, also known as “R-SON the Voice of Reason, “auditioned for the show with his group Gangstagrass. The group is a combination of bluegrass and hip hop, something Rench, the frontman of the group, dreamed about making for so long. The early iteration of the group, which did not feature Green at the time, wrote and performed the theme song for the hit FX show “Justified. “
Now, the group includes Rench, Green, another rapper named Dolio the Sleuth, Dan Whitener on the banjo, and Brian Farrow on the fiddle. It is this group that took the stage to try to win over judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell.
Starting off their audition, Rench talked about how this group was supposed to show what happens when people who are different come together and be united.
“These are my brothers,” Green added. “This is my family up here.”
When asked who the first person he would call when the judges told them whether or not they were moving on, Green quickly said he would be calling his kids. He received a loud “awww” from the audience for that one.
And then the performance began. The group sang an original song called “Bound to Ride,” which led to a standing ovation from all four judges. Each of them said “yes,” and the group officially moved on to the next round of the competition.
Of course, Green came through on his promise to the judges. The segment ended with him calling his kids — a moment that Green will likely cherish forever.
