Penn State Football Calls For White Outs Against Auburn & Michigan

Penn State football will break tradition and host White Outs against both Auburn and Michigan on September 18 and November 13, respectively, the team announced Thursday morning. Auburn’s will be a full-stadium White Out, while Michigan’s will cover only the student section.

Typically, the Nittany Lions would host just one White Out during their most anticipated home game of the season. But with fans back in the full-capacity stands for the first time in nearly two years, it seems Penn State wanted to recoup last year’s losses by hosting two White Outs in a two-month span.

Penn State’s White Outs are traditionally set for night games, and Auburn’s 7:30 p.m. prime time kickoff certainly fits that mold. The team hasn’t yet released kickoff info for its matchup with Michigan.

2019’s White Out came against then-No. 16 Michigan, which resulted in a 28-21 win for then-No. 7 Penn State. The Nittany Lions fell to Ohio State in 2018’s White Out following a heartbreaking 4th & 5 play call that wasn’t as bad as it might’ve seemed.

The last White Out that wasn’t held against Michigan or Ohio State came in 2011 when Alabama topped Penn State 27-11.

Penn State also announced additional game themes for the upcoming season. It’ll host a “107K Family Reunion” against Ball State on September 11; its annual THON game against Villanova on September 25; its annual Stripe Out against Indiana on October 2; its Homecoming game (featuring throwback “Generations of Greatness” uniforms) against Illinois on October 23; and Senior and Military Appreciation Day against Rutgers on November 20.

The Nittany Lions’ season will begin with a road trip to Wisconsin on Saturday, September 4.
