Four-Star Safety Cristian Driver Commits To Penn State Football

Penn State’s recruiting Class of 2022 is already impressive, but it just got even stronger with yet another addition to its secondary.

Four-star Texas safety Cristian Driver announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions Thursday afternoon. He shared the news on CBS Sports HQ.

The Argyle, Texas native is ranked as the No. 15 safety in the nation and the No. 37 overall prospect from his home state, according to 247Sports. Driver has received offers from some of Texas’ top programs, including Texas A&M, Baylor, and the Longhorns, but Penn State emerged as a favorite to scoop him up in recent months. He’s received 43 total offers up to this point.

Driver is the son of former Green Bay Packers star wideout and Super Bowl XLV Champion Donald Driver. Cristian has spent much of his high school career opposite his Dad on defense, but he’s also spent time as a pass-catcher. He played both ways as a sophomore back in 2019, and caught six passes worth 66 yards and two scores at wide receiver.

The safety is now the 14th four-star prospect in Penn State’s class and 23rd commit overall. Driver is also the fourth secondary player to join this group of new Nittany Lions, as he directly follows four-star Florida cornerback Cam Miller this week. Three-star safeties Jordan Allen and Tyrece Mills round out the group.

Driver just finished up his junior year at Liberty Christian High School. Check out his highlights from last fall’s football season here.
