Penn State Football To Hold Run-On Tryouts Starting August 17

Ever dreamed of running out of the Beaver Stadium tunnel? Do you want James Franklin 2 take time 2 wish you a Happy B-day on Twitter? Do you want to don black shoes and basic blues on Saturdays in the fall?

If so, Penn State football’s walk-on run-on tryouts may be for you.

The Nittany Lions will hold an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, via Zoom. The meeting is open to any full-time students at University Park. More details on the actual tryout date will be emailed out to those who fill out this Google Form.

While the Nittany Lions’ star players are typically recruited into the program, Penn State has a history of run-ons making big impacts. Former starting quarterback Matt McGloin and decorated linebacker Carl Nassib are among the most notable run-on stars.

McGloin started for the Nittany Lions from 2010-12 and racked up 6,390 passing yards and 46 passing touchdowns over his Penn State career.

Nassib set the Penn State single-season sack record in his final season with 15.5 sacks. He totaled 64 tackles, 24 tackles-for-loss, 17.5 sacks, and seven forced fumbles over his Nittany Lion career. Today, he plays for the Las Vegas Raiders.
