Will Levis Named Kentucky’s Starting Quarterback

Former Penn State quarterback Will Levis has won Kentucky’s starting quarterback job, head coach Mark Stoops announced Sunday.

Levis, who transferred to Kentucky in February, beat out Beau Allen and Joey Gatewood for the starting role.

“He’s been extremely efficient running the offense,” Stoops said. “His first throw in the stadium was a 65-yard TD strike. He has a lot of talent…he won the job.”

Levis started just two games for the Nittany Lions during his time in Happy Valley. He’ll now get the chance to be a full-time starter after being Sean Clifford’s backup the past two years.

“I’m so incredibly blessed to be given this amazing opportunity,” Levis said in a Twitter post. “Words can’t describe how excited I am to lead this group of guys! Get ready for a great season, Big Blue Nation!”

While quarterback was his primary position, Levis was used more as a runner than a passer during his time at Penn State. The Connecticut native ran the ball 133 times for 473 yards and six touchdowns between 2019 and 2020. Additionally, he completed 59.8% of his passes and threw for 644 yards and three touchdowns.

Levis’s unique usage off the bench was known as the “Falcon Package”, which was pretty much a run up the middle every single time. It may have been predictable, but it sure was electric at times, folks.

Levis and Kentucky kick off their season at noon on September 4 against LA-Monroe.
