Report: Penn State Football Alum John Reid Traded To Seattle Seahawks

Update, August 31: Shortly after arriving in Seattle, former Penn State cornerback John Reid is no longer on the Seahawks’ active roster, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero suggested Reid could remain in Seattle on the Seahawks’ practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Original: Former Penn State football cornerback John Reid has reportedly found a new home ahead of the 2021 NFL season.

The Houston Texans traded Reid to the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday afternoon in exchange for a conditional 2023 seventh-round draft pick, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Reid was drafted in the fourth round by the Texans with the No. 141 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Texans now curiously move on just one year after drafting the Nittany Lion.

In his rookie season, Reid appeared in 13 games and started one, totaling 13 tackles and one pass defended.

After practice Tuesday, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll described Reid as an active player with “really good speed.”

It was originally reported yesterday that the Texans were waiving Reid, but the team was able to work out a deal to send the second-year cornerback to Seattle. Reid will attempt to stick on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster before the team kicks off its regular season on September 12 against the Colts.

During his four-year career in Happy Valley, Reid served as a staple in Penn State’s secondary. He totaled 126 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, 30 pass breakups, and seven interceptions in 51 games. He ranks No. 11 all-time in program history with 37 total passes defended.
