Saquon Barkley Named New York Giants Captain For Third Straight Year
The New York Giants officially released their list of seven captains for the 2021 NFL season Monday afternoon.
For the third straight season, former star Penn State running back and 2018 Pro Bowler Saquon Barkley has once again been named a captain.
Barkley joins quarterback Daniel Jones, center Nick Gates, cornerback Logan Ryan, linebacker Blake Martinez, safety Jabrill Peppers, and kicker Graham Gano as the captains for the Giants. Barkley is the only one of the seven to be voted a captain for a third straight year.
No stranger to the spotlight, Barkley served as captain for the Nittany Lions during his final season in Happy Valley in 2017. Penn State went on to win 11 games that year, including a 35-28 win in the Fiesta Bowl over Washington.
After missing all but two games a year ago due to a torn ACL, partially torn meniscus, and strained MCL, many are expecting a bounce-back season for the Nittany Lion in his fourth professional campaign.
Prior to his injury-plagued 2020 season, Barkley set the league on fire during his 2018 rookie campaign. He totaled over 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns, while averaging five yards per carry en route to taking home the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
You can see Barkley and the Giants kick off the 2021 season at home against the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, September 12 on FOX.
