Penn State Football Leaps To No. 4 In AP Top 25 Poll
Penn State football has jumped two spots to No. 4 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.
The Nittany Lions climb after this weekend’s 38-17 win over Villanova. James Franklin’s squad hardly had a perfect day against the FCS opponent, but the first-team defense did its job throughout while several explosive plays carried Sean Clifford and the offense over the Wildcats.
Penn State now sits at 4-0 entering Big Ten play and is the highest ranked team in the the conference. Iowa took down Colorado State 24-14 Saturday and remains at No. 5, while Ohio State (No. 11), Michigan (No. 14), and Michigan State (No. 17) follow. The Buckeyes took care of business this weekend with a 59-7 over Akron, while Wisconsin falls out of the poll after being dominated 41-13 by No. 9 Notre Dame.
The top four of the poll is now led by Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and of course the Nittany Lions. Oklahoma fell out of that picture to No. 6 this week. Lincoln Riley’s squad just barely snuck by West Virginia 16-13 thanks to a game-winning field goal at the end of regulation.
The Nittany Lions climbed two spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll and are now ranked No. 6 there. Iowa sits at No. 5, while Ohio State (No. 10), Michigan (No. 14), and Michigan State (No. 16) follow.
Penn State will finish its four-game home stand next Saturday when Indiana comes to town. The Hoosiers are currently 2-2 with losses to No. 5 Iowa and No. 7 Cincinnati. That contest will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and be broadcast on ABC.
