Penn State Plans Week Of Activities For Second-Year Students

To recognize those who started their college career during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Penn State is hosting a week’s worth of events for second-year students from Monday, October 11, to Friday, October 15.

For many of these second-year students, this semester may be their first on campus, and Penn State hopes to help them acclimate to their new environment and make up for lost experiences last semester. Before you dive in, though, you’ll need to download an app to receive passes for events, so check out these online instructions.

The 50-plus offerings and activities can be found on the Second Year Appreciation Week website, but read below for some of the highlights.

Tuesday, October 12

On Tuesday, October 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., second-year students can pick up exclusive stickers from the first floor of the HUB. Nothing screams being a college student more than a laptop decorated with stickers.

Wednesday, October 13

If you get nothing else out of this week, at least stop by the HUB’s Pollock Road entrance at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday for some free donuts on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Also on Wednesday will be an Arts Meetup in the HUB Gallery from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Second-year students can also build attend a “Build Your Own Study Kit” workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in 004 Henderson Building.

Thursday, October 14

Second-year students can enjoy a free fountain drink in the HUB all day on Thursday, October 14.

Also on Thursday, Smeal College of Business students can attend an engagement workshop at the Business Building meadow from noon to 3:15 p.m.

Friday, October 15

Students will have the opportunity of a lifetime on Friday when they can take a tour and learn about the history of the Old Main Bell Tower. Second-year students interested in this opportunity can stop by Old Main Lawn from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday.

At 4 p.m. on Old Main Lawn on Friday, students are also invited to join a Class of 2024 photo. After a full year of learning virtually, this is the perfect opportunity to meet some of your fellow classmates.
