SPA, Homecoming To Host Musician Betty Who October 17

Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA) and Penn State Homecoming will host musician Betty Who for a concert on Sunday, October 17. The event will begin at 8 p.m. that night at Alumni Hall in the HUB.

The concert will help kick off Homecoming Week 2021. Homecoming will wrap up on Saturday, October 23, when Penn State football faces Illinois at Beaver Stadium.

Jessica Anne Newham is an Australian-American singer and songwriter known by her stage name “Betty Who.” Who has been playing music since she was 4 years old.

She’s likely best known for her pop songs, “Somebody Loves You” and “Marry Me.” She’s had many credits, including the remake of the Queer Eye theme song and the Pitch Perfect soundtrack. Who has even opened for Katy Perry, Panic at the Disco, and Kesha.

Her music style is a mix between indie electropop, synth dance music, and rock and roll.

Betty Who’s first independent single, “Ignore Me,” debuted in 2018 after parting from her record deal. “I Remember” is a sad song about a previous relationship that was released in 2019. Betty Who’s “All This Woman” is another well-known song about self-love and body positivity.

Like every SPA event, the concert is free for Penn State students and funded by their student-initiated fee. Registration is not required to attend the event.
