Penn Staters Encouraged To Update Zoom Starting November 1

Still Zooming into class these days? You’ll need to jump through a few hoops before joining your next meeting.

Penn State is strongly recommending that all Zoom users update to the latest version of Zoom starting on November 1. This is due to a forced update from the vendor requiring at least version 5.5.0.

Without installing the update, users will be unable to join any meetings. Penn State recommends updating “to ensure optimal Zoom security”.

Updating Zoom to at least version 5.8 will add a handful of features, including the ability to include gender pronouns, which the university worked to implement this past spring.

Some departments may need assistance from IT administration, which can be requested here. Mac and Windows users can get more information about how to upgrade here.
